Today was the CRASH-B World Indoor Rowing Championships aka USRowing Indoor National Championships, and not to be confused with the World Rowing Indoor Championships (different word order, you see). In 2020, I got sick right before CRASH-B's, so I stayed home while those who could went to Boston to go breathe air together at the indoor track just before everything shut down for the pandemic. I did the virtual race last year, and came in sixth with a time of 7:42.6. This year, fewer of the superfast women showed up for a second year of virtual racing, so I came in fourth with a time of 7:45.0, which was 2.9 seconds faster than the previous virtual indoor regatta I participated in, in January. I'd still like to keep working on bringing my time down closer to the 7:40 mark, but that's hard to do with work and other life demands. As an added bonus, my teammates wanted to participate in the 4-member 2000m relay event, so we did that as well, which was fun, for a "lungs burning whole body on fire" oxygen deficit definition of fun.
Here's what my office looks like when configured for erg racing:

Here was my view during the race, including my little motivational note to myself from
annikusrex as a reminder to not spend too much time agonizing over my grading:

Somehow I think our Ukranian coach would approve of the sign and declare it to be applicable to rowing.
Since I was at work I was able to get some badly needed ant-keeping work done as well, in between races.
Spending that much time at work meant less time at home for cooking this weekend, so I had to focus on things I could make in a relative hurry this evening. I did get the loaf of bread started earlier, and made pancakes in the morning. It's kind of useful to know that if I have the ingredients on hand, I can knock out batches of broccoli-chickpea burrito filling, pad thai with shredded carrots, and bbq tofu in 2 hours, including the time it took to eat some of the pad thai and to do all the dishes.

A far cry from sardines and muesli, but cooking reasonably healthy foods with vegetables doesn't have to be an all-day ordeal, either.
