I feel like I'm seeing less evidence of fighting over, "It's not real," and a shift towards more glum news stories There's a recent paper that I can't find now that says they're connected: local disasters (flooding, powerful storms) convince people where reams of global data haven't. Sad but true.
But a period of massive sorrow? Oh, God... I suppose that depends on how quickly people adapt to what will likely become normal, and how quickly they start to do something about it. Try giving the ol' magic 8-ball a shake, because it'll have a better guess than I do. :/
Edit to add: even more so than in older media, online bad news sells. So we're probably seeing more glum news stories, period.
